A Note of Auxiliary Verb

ought to = should

had better + Verb (原型動詞)
ex. You had better report the accident to the police.
ex. You had better not tell this secret to anyone.

ex. You may feel some shaking when the plan takes off
ex. He might come to the party with his wife.

確認程度: must/can't be > should/ought to > may > might

ex. My grandfather will often go fishing on Sundays.

will/would you
would you 為比較禮貌的用法, 和could you一樣.
勸誘對方要用will you. ex. Will you try my chocolate cake?

Shall I = Do you want me to
Should I/Should we.

be supposed to = should
ex. You're not supposed to take picture here

may well  = 大概
ex. She may well be tired after her trip

might as well =最好 (忠告)
ex. You'll never solve that problem, you might as well give up.

may as well . . . as = 與其. . . . .
ex. You may as well do you homework now as do it later.

might as well . . . as = 做. . . . .
ex. You might as well throw your money away as buy such a thing.

  • I sent a book to him (o)
  • I sent him a book (o)

(buy類型)
  • He bought a nice watch (o)
  • He bought a nice watch for me (o)
  • He bought me a nice watch (o)
